This is Stephen A. Schwarzman’s story. Recently Stephen Schwarzman was no. fifty-three on the list of the richest people in the country, even so it’s not money which makes this tale absorbing but also his incredible success in the business and finance world and his generosity to education and the liberal arts. Stephen’s life has affected people globally and in addition he has utilized his riches to change many people’s lives, too. Stephen Schwarzman and Peter Peterson established the portfolio management and financial advisory company Blackstone Group in the mid-eighties. Now, the Blackstone Group is a household name engaging in holdings as diverse as, for example, Catalent Pharma Solutions and Celanese. Living for many of his adolescent years in near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Stephen went to school in suburban Philadelphia. After graduating from high school he went on to study at the well esteemed Yale University in Connecticut and received his degree in 1969. He decided to advance his education at the legendary Harvard Business School, graduating in 1972. Once he had finished his time at college, Stephen started a career in investment banking. Stephen was given the role of managing director at the age of thirty-one. Stephen Schwarzman donates to a range of liberal arts as well as assisting as an assistant professor at the prestigious Yale School of Management. To further illustrate his wide spectrum of engagement, he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. On top of all that, Stephen recently gifted to the New York Public Library a hundred million dollars to fund their building project. He is also one of the trustees of the library.
